Things we get asked a lot

RSARC has a zero incident history since it's establishment in 1983. Safety is of the utmost importance to all of our members and we expect the same of our visitors. All members adhere to strict safety controls to ensure everyone is kept safe, as well as providing safety guidance and training to visitors. In fact, target sports have the lowest rate of injury than any other sport in Australia!

Just come visit us during our opening times and have a chat to our friendly members. If you want to have a go, there's some brief paperwork to fill out and some safety guidelines to go over, then you'll get some coaching on some basic techniques and you'll be free to shoot. We do tend to keep the door closed to keep the weather out, but if the red light is on, we're there.

We only ask that If you are going to visit intending to shoot, we'd really appreciate you letting us know ahead of time if possible. This helps us ensure that we have enough support (range officers and coaches) available.

Modern compressed gas target air rifles are louder than their older spring-based counterparts, but they are not overly loud. We do still recommend hearing protection for everyone but the noise is quite tolerable. However, if you or other shooters are using rimfire rifles, these are quite a bit louder and hearing protection will be required. Our clubroom area is well insulated from the noise so hearing protection is only ever necessary at the firing line and this would give you an opportunity to get a feel for the noise levels if you might have a sensitivity to it. We supply earplugs at the range free of charge. Both rimfire and air rifles are often used simultaneously at the range.

We supply everything you need to shoot, so there's no need to bring anything but there are some general rules around attire.

Please ensure you wear enclosed, flat shoes and normal/plain clothes. We do not allow camo attire at the range.

Earmuffs are not recommended for shooters as they tend to get in the way of you holding the rifle correctly unless they are specific for shooting. Ear plugs are available at the range free of charge.

No, visitors and members do not need a firearms license to participate in the club. We have many unlicensed members who regularly shoot competitively with the club rifles.

All unlicensed shooters are closely supervised by a licensed member or range officer.

As long as it's a rifle permitted at the range. Permitted calibers are 0.177 for Air, and 0.22 rimfire rifles. There are some limitations to this though, for example we do not permit military style or camo coloured firearms. 0.22 rimfire ammunition is limited to subsonic 'standard velocity' only. Supersonic ammunition is not allowed at the range, nor are magnum cartridges. Rimfire rifles must be of a bolt action type. Lever/Pump action and semi-auto rifles are not allowed on the range.

The cost for visitors is a $25 range fee per visit, for up to 3 visits. You may shoot Air Rifle or rimfire, however rimfire ammunition is not included in the price and must be purchased separately. Please note that if you are not licensed, you may not take any live ammunition home with you. We do allow you to store your ammunition at the club till next time though.

Annual membership fees are approximately $400* for Adults. Junior members are at a discounted rate and are not subject to the new member fee**. Fees are payable in July/August each year. This rate is partially prorated as the membership year progresses.

This might seem expensive but RSARC is proud to be one of the only clubs that does not charge a range fee for members to shoot. Use the range as much as you like for no extra charge once you are a member - That even includes using the club rifles!

*Fees are revised each membership year in line with other economical factors. This is indicative of what to expect and not the actual rate.

** Juniors are charged a $12 fee per visit or $90 per school term to cover the cost of ammunition (pellets), coaching, weekly prizes and medals.

Sure! For special events we can open the range outside of our normal operating times for a private event. Contact us for group event pricing and availability.

If you decide target shooting is your thing, and you'd like to progress to getting your firearms license, there's a few hoops to jump through. It's not hard, but it can be a long process so the sooner you start, the better. We've detailed the process under the further information tab, but always check the SAPOL website for the most up to date and accurate information.
